Historically, people in power (namely politicians) use experiences with communities they know only from afar (or do not know) to inform their decisions. Because of my background, people will never stop doubting whether my experience is valid or true. And doubt from others is not only hurtful; but, in the long run, it makes us doubt our own experiences. With For Freedoms, I decided to put my billboard in Hartford, Connecticut near the American School of the Deaf. Founded in 1817, it was the first deaf school in the United States. I want the deaf students to see the billboard and think: "that's right, just shut up and listen to us."
