Prompted by alarming rates of violence and hate speech directed towards Jewish people in the U.S.A. today and historically, For Freedoms has engaged a community of diverse artists to create public artworks and conversations about antisemitism across the country. As we have done in the past, we join together to affirm our collective commitment to freedom of worship and the principles of justice.

We believe the past is present, that critical thinking is vital in undoing vast social challenges like antisemitism, and that when we deny our history, we are destined to repeat it. We insist that art and artists can repair the world. We invite artists to create work that channels an aspiration towards a world without antisemitism, where people of all faiths feel solidarity and space for collectively thriving, a world in which all people are free, decolonized, and safe.

The artists in this campaign include: Carrie Mae Weems, Joel Mesler, Ruvan Wijesooriya, Wyatt Gallery, Hank Willis Thomas, Deborah Kass, Zoë Buckman, Doron Langberg, Eric Gottesman, Cara Levine, Eve-Lauryn LaFountain, and Tanya Habjouqa.

The works will be on view as outdoor digital media in collaboration with Orange Barrel Media (OBM) across Los Angeles, CA, San Antonio, TX, Boston, MA, Miami, FL, Columbus, OH, Washington DC, Atlanta, GA and St. Louis, MO during the 2023 High Holy Days, Rosh Hashanah (September 15 – 17) and Yom Kippur (September 24 – 25).
