During Los Angeles Frieze Week 2024, For Freedoms hosted a variety of public activations across Los Angeles with our partners.
For Freedoms, in partnership with Frieze Los Angeles, NeueHouse, Vote.org, and Plan C, hosted a light breakfast and panel discussion - ART& Civic Imagination: We Won’t Get Anywhere Without the Artists, featuring Andrea Hailey (CEO of vote.org), and Autumn Breon (Artist), and Claudia Peña (co-ED of For Freedoms and co-director of UCLA's Center for Justice). Autumn Breon’s installations, Care Machine and Care Tracker were also on view at NeueHouse for the duration of Frieze week. Generous support for this program and installation was provided by Plan C.
As part of the launch of the Judith Center during LA Art Week, For Freedoms Co-Executive Director Michelle Woo participated in a panel discussion "Girls Interrupted: How Bias in Museum Architecture Leads to Bias in Art" exploring how museum architecture, designed by male architects in the 20th century, failed to account for the display needs of work produced by women and other groups. Panelists discussed the ongoing ramifications of this history.Other panelists included: Kathryn Andrews, Artist and Founder of The Judith Center; Leigh Arnold, PhD, Curator at The Nasher Sculpture Center; Jaye Buchbinder, Engineer at EMECO; Tamar Halpern, Artist; and Kulapat Yantrasast, Founder of WHY Architecture. The Panel discussion was followed by Food and Dancing. A recording of the discussion can be viewed here.
